good morning welcome to our children's, Bible our it's so good to have all of, you with us today for those of you who, aren't kids joining us welcome for those, of you who don't attend LifePoint, Baptist Church welcome we're glad that, all of you could join us for this time, and especially for those kids who come, here to life Point Baptist Church I'm, really glad that you are here like I, said last week in about an hour, pastor kid is going to preach a sermon, primarily for your parents although you, could listen in as well take notes, something like that draw a picture but, this is our time to look into God's Word, together because even though we can't, get together at church, which is really sad we need Sunday as a, day to rest and to worship God and so, that's what we're gonna do today we're, gonna take some time to look into God's, Word and to worship Him through the, truths that he has given us and so I, hope that you are awake I'm assuming if, you're watching this then you're awake, and I hope that you have gotten some, breakfast to gotten dressed for the day, you know if you need to use the restroom, now would probably be a good time to do, that as well before we get into our, Bible lesson but who can tell me what is, the special holiday that is coming up, next Sunday that's right it's Easter, next Sunday is Easter Sunday and who can, tell me what special event do we, remember on Easter yes we remember Jesus, resurrection from the dead but wait a, second why would Jesus have to die that, doesn't make any sense Jesus was God's, Son Jesus was perfect the Bible says, that death is because of sin but Jesus, never sinned why would Jesus have to die, come to think about it why would Jesus, even have to come because Jesus was in, heaven from eternity past he is with God, why would he come down here to our sin, cursed planet to live a life and then, die, those were the two questions that we, decided that we were going to answer, last week in this week getting ready for, Easter Sunday we began last week in the, Garden of Eden this week we're going to, fast-forward many years to about two, thousand years back from our time when, Jesus walked this earth but before we do, that let's sing a couple songs, first we're going to sing our theme song, for these three weeks which is called, across the lands and so I'm going to go, ahead and advance that slide to the next, one which is across the lands okay well, we'll get them up there maybe in a, minute but for right now let's sing and, if you know it you can sing it along, with me it starts like this, you're the Word of God the Father from, before the world began every star and, every planet has been fashioned by your, hand all creation holds together by the, power of your voice let the skies, declare your glory let the land and seas, rejoice you're the author of creation, you're the Lord of every man and your, cry of love rings out across the land, and yet you left the gaze of angels came, to seek and save the lost and exchanged, the joy of heaven for the anguish of a, cross with the prayer you fed the hungry, with the word you still to the sea yet, how silently you suffered that the, guilty may go free you're the author of, creation you are the Lord of every man, and your cry of love rings out across, the land, and with the shout you rose victorious, resting victory from the grave and, descended into heaven, leading captives in your wake now you, stand before the Father interceding for, your own from each tribe and tongue and, nation you are leading sinners home you, are the author of creation you're the, Lord of every man and your cry of love, rings out across the land, and very good I hope you're able to sing, that with me you may or may not have, been able to I started it pretty high, which was a little bit hard but I got, through it now you might remember that, we are singing that song because that's, kind of the outline you could say for, our next three weeks or for last week, this week and next week of lessons at, first we talked about creation how Jesus, is a part of creating everything that, exists this week we're talking about his, life and death and next week his, resurrection we're gonna sing one more, song today it's a song that maybe you, might know a little bit better and, there's some hand motions that go along, with this song that I hope that you can, do and so we're gonna sing together, jesus loves me this I know Jesus loves, me this I know for the Bible tells me so, little ones to him belong they are weak, but he is strong yes jesus loves me yes, jesus loves me yes jesus loves me the, Bible tells me so Jesus loves me he who, died having skates to open wide he will, wash away my sin let his little child, come in yes jesus loves me yes jesus, loves me yes jesus loves me the Bible, tells me so, good I hope you're able to do those, songs and those motions with me this, morning now let's go back to the end of, last week's lesson and pick up right, there where we left off we started with, the first verse in the Bible say with me, if you know it it goes like this, Genesis 1:1 and, God created the heavens and the earth we, talked about how God created everything, and the pinnacle of his creation the, very tip-top the most special thing that, God created was he created mankind the, name of the first man was Adam the name, of the first woman was Eve God put them, together in the Garden of Eden and he, told them to take care of it but he also, gave them a rule don't eat of the fruit, that grows from the tree of the, knowledge of good and evil in the day, you eat it you will die now they didn't, know what that meant but they knew they, could not eat the fruit that grew from, that tree and they did it at least for a, while, because one day Satan who wanted to mess, up all of God's creation entered a snake, and he slithered over to Eve and he said, has God really said that you can't eat, the fruit that grows from the trees in, the garden and he convinced Eve that it, would be good to eat that fruit it, looked so beautiful, it was taste wonderful and he said it, would make her wise like God but boys, and girls that was a lie and when Eve, ate from that fruit and she gave it to, Adam and he ate it too they found that, everything changed because inside they, became sinners rebels against God now, they knew what evil was like but it, wasn't a good thing now just like God, said they were going to die they began, to realize that they were naked so they, sewed some fig leaves together to make, themselves coverings and they hid from, God the God who they loved the God who, walked with them and talked with them in, the garden every day they hid away from, him but God came looking for Adam and, Eve he said Adam where are you and Adam, and Eve came out and he said what have, you done and Adam said it's Eve's fault, neap said it's the Serpent's fault and, God cursed the serpent in Adam and Eve, and he said there's going to be sores, and thistles goat, and it's gonna hurt when you bear, children this world is now gonna be full, of pain and all kinds of bad things, because of what you have done but we, also learned that God loved Adam and Eve, and so while he had to send them out of, his beautiful garden he sent them away, with a couple of blessings one was that, he made them clothes to replace those, those fig leaves that they had made for, themselves he actually made them, coverings of animal skin but in order to, get those coverings what had to happen, boys and girls that's right an animal, had to die that was the first death ever, in God's wonderful world an animal had, to die so that Adam and Eve could be, covered maybe it was a lamb we don't, know but that points forward to how, Jesus had to die and shed his blood on, the cross so that our sins could be, covered and then God told Adam and Eve a, specific promise he said one day one of, your children our grandchildren or, great-grandchildren or something like, that one of your descendants is going to, crush the head of that serpent he's, going to destroy your enemy Satan once, and for all Satan will bruise his heel, but he will crush Satan's head and so, Adam and Eve left the garden full of, sorrow but also full of hope now fast, forward many years Adam and Eve had, children and they had children they had, children they had children they had, children pretty soon the world was full, of people until we come in Genesis, chapter 12 - a man named Abraham Abraham, was a special chosen person by God he, became the father of what is known as, the nation of Israel and God gave, Abraham some special promises and one, thing that he told him was he said from, you or from your descendants all the, families of the earth will be blessed, everyone is gonna be blessed because of, you someone who comes from you and so, that's another promise that points, forward to that special someone who was, going to come the one who has promised, to Adam and even now is promised to, Abraham fast forward more years King, David the greatest king of Israel God, told him that one day, there's gonna be a descendent of yours, who sits on your throne and rules, forever and so we learned that this, special someone who is coming is going, to be a king and he's going to reign, it's all pointing forward to that, special someone who would bruise or, crush I should say the Serpent's head, and have his own heel bruised the, prophets talked more about him they even, told where he would be born they said, he'd be born in Bethlehem grew up in, Nazareth they tell us a lot about this, special someone and so the children of, Israel were looking forward to his, arrival they called him the Promised One, or in the Hebrew Messiah or in the Greek, Christ now fast forward several hundred, more years and on one night in the hills, outside of Bethlehem some shepherds were, watching their sheep it was just a, probably a still calm night when all of, a sudden Wow, the sky lit up and there were angels an, angel and one of them was saying to him, that unto you Is Born This Day in the, City of David a savior which is Christ, which is Messiah which is that special, someone who had come the Lord and you'll, find him wrapped in swaddling cloths and, lay lying in a manger and then and then, there were angels everywhere and they, were singing glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace goodwill toward men, who was like nothing these Shepherd's, had ever heard or probably even imagined, and and so the Angels went away and they, we got to go to Bethlehem so they went, to Bethlehem and there sure enough they, found that place where that baby was, lying in a manger, a feeding trough for animals and they, saw there in the manger this this Christ, this Messiah this Promised One who was, coming fulfilling all of these promises, from from centuries and thousands of, years in the past all the way back to, Adam and Eve in the garden and they were, filled with Wonder the Bible says that, they left that place and they told, everyone about what they had seen later, on there were some other visitors who, came to call them the wise men and you, know what the Bible says that the wise, men did toward Jesus it says that they, worshipped him, that they actually fell down on their, knees I would assume and they they, worshiped they worship Jesus boys and, girls they worshipped that young child, now they didn't worship Joseph did they, why not well he was nothing special, he wasn't even Jesus real father he was, just a kind of an adoptive father or you, could say his father was God they didn't, worship Mary why not well because Mary, wasn't anything special she was just a a, woman even though she gave birth to, Jesus she was human just like everyone, else, Jesus was human too but more than that, he was God he was 100% God and 100% man, at the same time and boys and girls that, is one of the most incredible truths in, the Bible 100% God 100% man do you know, we call that truth we call it the, Incarnation can you say that with me, incarnation it means that Jesus became a, man now not carnation not like the, flowers incarnation that Jesus took on a, body and became a man like one of us, amazing and one of the results of that, was he actually had to grow up I mean, Jesus actually cried when he was a baby, Jesus actually had to have his diapers, changed Jesus actually had to learn how, to talk Jesus the Bible says grew in, wisdom and stature he got taller he, learned more in his thinking and in his, mind he it was amazing even though he's, God all of these regular human, development things that probably you're, doing right now you're learning and, growing Jesus was doing these very same, things finally when he was 30 years old, Jesus began what we call his public, ministry that means that Jesus actually, started to go around the nation of, Israel and to and to preach and proclaim, his message and he preached him, proclaimed and taught like nobody else, ever has or ever will you know I'm a, teacher I'm a preacher that's part of, what, get paid to do and I try to make it, interesting to you and I try to make it, as much as close to the Bible as I, possibly possibly can and sometimes, maybe it is interesting and hopefully, most of the time it's very very biblical, but sometimes I fall short maybe, sometimes you get bored not with Jesus, boy the people that heard him speak said, things like this we have never heard, anyone speak like this where did this, man get so smart he never went to school, he never went to college how did he, learn all these things you have the, words of eternal life those were the, kinds of things they said about his, teaching it was it was amazing it was it, was totally in line with the Old, Testament yeah it was it was in a sense, brand-new it was beautiful it was, amazing and Jesus also did miracles one, day as you can see on the screen he fed, 5,000 people with just one little boy's, lunch that's amazing another time he, went up to a man who who couldn't walk, and He healed him in John chapter 5 we, read about other miracles that Jesus did, that one time he and his disciples were, on the the Sea of Galilee a great big, lake and a huge storm came up and they, were in a pretty small boat and they, were afraid they were gonna sink and, they would all drown in the water, I'd be very scary I don't know if you've, ever been in a situation like that but, Wow, Jesus wasn't afraid Jesus just stood up, and said peace be still I mean he was, talking to the to the sky he was talking, to the water and guess what they obeyed, him the sky in the water obeyed him, that's how powerful he is because He is, God maybe one of his most I think his, most an incredible miracle outside of, his own resurrection that one day one of, his friends named Lazarus passed away, but four days later Jesus went to that, tomb where Lazarus was buried and he, said Lazarus come forth and sure enough, this man who had been dead for days came, hopping out of that tomb all wrapped up, with the grave cloths Jesus had raised, him from the dead nobody had done, anything, like this before nobody had done, miracles like Jesus and they pointed to, the fact that he truly was from God he, was who he said he was he was the son of, God but even though Jesus did all of, these incredible miracles, some people didn't like him primarily it, was the religious teachers the people, who should have known better - people, who should have known best the people, who should have seen his teaching that, it was exactly what the Old Testament, was predicting and said this is it, everybody this is the Messiah they, should have been the one saying, everybody come and listen to him but, instead they were trying to get everyone, to turn away from him because they, wanted the glory for themselves they, wanted to be rich and powerful they, didn't want Jesus as their king and so, they decided that in order to get rid of, him they would have to kill him that's, exactly what they were trying to do most, of the time that Jesus was teaching and, preaching they were trying to figure out, how to get rid of him God protected, Jesus until one day it was time for, Jesus to die you see all the way back in, the Garden of Eden when God gave that, promise to Adam and Eve in order to, crush the Serpent's head God knew that, his own son would have to die for the, sins of mankind in order to provide that, deliverance that rescue and so one day, while Jesus was praying in a garden with, his disciples and soldiers came and they, arrested him they were the Jewish, religious leaders and some soldiers that, they had and they took him finally, eventually to pilot who was pilot was, the governor of of that area for the, country of Rome which had conquered, Israel at the time and the reason they, needed Pilate was because they couldn't, put anyone to death by themselves they, had to get permission from the Romans to, do that and so they asked Pilate they, said we think he needs to die Pilate, said why and so then Pilate started, asking him questions he asked Jesus a, lot of different questions and, when he finished his questioning he said, this to the people he said I don't find, any fault with him I don't find anything, wrong with him but but the people, wouldn't take that for an answer they, wanted Jesus dead Pilate questioned, Jesus some more he had his soldiers, whipped Jesus they put a crown of thorns, on his head they they put a robe on him, a purple robe to make him look like a, king and to mock him and say hail King, of the Jews when really he wasn't they, didn't believe that I mean he was the, king but they were just making fun of, him and then Pilate led him out on his, porch and he stood him before the people, and he said these words which had more, meaning than he ever knew he said behold, your king so this is like the big moment, of Jesus being presented to his people, this Promised One who had who had been, coming for all of this time everyone was, looking forward to him and now he's here, and his presentation is with a crown of, thorns and a mock robe all beaten and, bruised and when he's presented to this, group of people and they see him in that, condition you know what they start, crying, not Hosanna like they did a week before, but crucify him crucify him crucify him, crucify him they want Jesus dead, so finally Pilate gave up and he said, fine crucify him but I wash my hands I'm, innocent of all of this this isn't my, problem now Pilate could never wash the, guilt off of his hands they wouldn't, have been able to crucify Jesus without, him and he said yes because of the, people but really it was it was all of, those men and women who were involved -, who put Jesus on the cross but when you, really even think about it farther it it, was it was me who put Jesus on the cross, it was you who put Jesus on the cross, because the reason he had to come and, die was to, take my place and your place because of, our sin and so they put a cross on Jesus, shoulders and they had him carried carry, it to a mountain called Golgotha we call, it sometimes refer to it as Calvary and, there Jesus was crucified his his arms, were nailed to the outstretched posts, and his feet were nailed to the one down, below the Bible tells us, you'd have to push up on his feet to get, a breath and then come back down and, eventually he wouldn't be strong enough, to take a breath and he would die but, Jesus wasn't the only one who was, crucified that day on either side of him, two other men were crucified now these, men weren't perfect like Jesus they, actually were sinners and the Romans, were crucifying them because of crimes, that they had committed against the, nation of Rome they had done bad things, and so Rome said the penalty is death, and so that's what they were suffering, but these men had interesting responses, to Jesus very different in fact because, one of them actually joined in with the, Pharisees and some of the other people, who didn't like Jesus and were standing, around and they started making fun of, Jesus while he was suffering can you, imagine that Jesus is dying and they're, making fun of him making it worse and, they said things like this if you are, truly the Messiah come off that cross, and save yourselves, you saved others why can't you save, yourself and they they laughed at him, he's ridiculous he's a phony he's a fake, and they threw these things in his face, and one of the thieves, we call him thieves is probably more of, a rebel against Rome but he actually, joined in but then the other one did, something very interesting and so the, other the other man he said this he said, stop that he's his friend stop making, fun of him he said listen we've done, lots of things wrong but Jesus has never, done anything wrong I mean he's he's, suffering and he's a righteous man so, stop making fun of him that's not right, but then he said this to Jesus which is, the most amazing thing of all he looked, at you, and he said remember me when you come, into your kingdom, into your kingdom, Jesus is about ready to die how is he, gonna be a king my statement took a, whole lot of faith on the part of that, man who is dying on the cross beside, Jesus and because of the faith that he, had expressed with those words jesus, said to him this he said today you will, be with me in paradise, in other words that very day when Jesus, and that man died they would be together, in heaven and that's exactly what, happened, they all did die that day and Jesus and, that man who were next to him they went, to be in heaven and their spirits that, other man who was making fun of Jesus he, didn't go to heaven why not he said well, he because he made fun of Jesus that's, pretty bad he must not have gotten to go, to heaven because he made fun of Jesus, not exactly because let me ask you this, was that man who went to heaven with, Jesus that day a better person than that, than the criminal and the other side of, Jesus not really they were both bad men, both of them had done things that Rome, considered to be capital offenses worthy, of death both of them were sinners so, why did one of them end up in heaven, while the other one ended up in hell, well here's the difference boys and, girls it's because one of them by faith, trusted in Jesus he said Lord remember, me I am a sinner and he had faith that, Jesus was a king even though he was, dying on the cross and so he was saved, you see boys and girls the difference, between people to go to heaven and, people to go to hell is not that the, ones who go to heaven are good and the, ones who go to hell are bad because the, Bible tells us that all of us are bad, people, now hopefully when we get saved God, helps us to live lives that are pleasing, to him and so we we in a sense get, better more like Christ but but really, at the root of it we're all sinners and, the only reason that anyone can go to, heaven is by faith, in Jesus death on the cross for us have, you put your faith in Jesus and his, death in the cross for you has there, ever been a time where you repented of, your sins the bad things that you've, done in your life you said lord please, forgive me and save me I want to have a, a new heart a changed heart and to live, forever with you I want to live for you, here on earth I want to obey your, commands I want to be your child if not, I pray that you'll do that even today, before we close this lesson I want to, tell you about one other person who is, standing by when Jesus was crucified he, had a very interesting story this man, was actually a Roman soldier, a Centurion the Bible says he was in, charge of other people and he saw Jesus, hanging on the cross and he saw some, amazing signs that took place while, Jesus was hanging there you see the, Bible says that at 12:00 noon that some, weird things started to happen while, Jesus was on the cross that all of a, sudden the sky got blackest night and, then the ground started to shake there, was a huge earthquake rocks even split, apart if you were back in the city of, Jerusalem in the temple the veil between, the Holy of Holies and the Holy Place, was torn in two, they were amazing things that were, happening dead people even coming out of, the tombs and coming to life amazing and, the Centurion saw a little glimpse of, that and then and then you saw Jesus, breathe his last and say father into, your hands I commit my spirit and right, before that it is finished in other, words my work is done, I've completed all that God sent me to, do and he bowed his head and he died and, the Centurion saw that and as things, were kind of going back to normal maybe, the Sun was coming out again the ground, stopped shaking the Centurion said, surely this was the Son of God and you, know he was right because that is, exactly who Jesus is he is the son of, God and the amazing thing, that happened while Jesus was hanging on, the cross the amazing thing and this is, why it became dark and and the ground, was shaking and all of these things was, was because while Jesus was hanging on, that cross God in a sense took the sins, of all of the world and place him on, Jesus shoulders and Jesus suffered and, died not for his own sins but for your, sins and for mine God poured out his, wrath and his judgment and his, punishment on Jesus so that he wouldn't, have to pour it out on us, that is the substitute that happened, while Jesus was on the cross him for you, him for me that's the most amazing thing, that happened that's why the sky turned, black that's what is so amazing about, the cross Jesus became sin for us that's, amazing it's amazing but of course Jesus, didn't stay dead and so you'll have to, come back next week to hear that part of, the story that's the end of our lesson, for this week but we still have a couple, more things to do first we have some, discussion questions and so I'm going to, give you about three minutes to talk, with your parents about the answers to, these questions if your parents are in, the room or if they're close by get, their attention if not then it's okay, just talk to your brother or sister, about the questions or if you don't have, anybody there with you in the room just, write the answers down on a piece of, paper but talk to somebody to write the, answers about these questions now number, one why did the wise men worship Jesus, but not Mary or Joseph number two do, good people go to heaven and bad people, go to hell why or why not, number three what was the most amazing, thing that happened well Jesus was on, the cross so take a few moments now, about three minutes to answer these, questions with your mom and dad, all right I hope that you were able to, answer those questions with your mom and, dad or somebody with you in the room, well write them down on a piece of paper, and that those will be a help to you, next we're gonna memorize our verse for, this week and so our verse for this week, is from the book of Isaiah chapter 53, verse 6 go ahead and say it with me, all we like sheep have gone astray we, have turned every one to his own way and, the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of, us all let's say it again isaiah 53:6, all we like sheep have gone astray we, have turned every one to his own way and, the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of, us all one more time, isaiah 53:6 all we like sheep have gone, astray we have turned every one to his, own way and the Lord has laid on him the, iniquity of us all, who's the him in that verse yeah that's, Jesus you probably knew that one let's, take out some words now and see how it, that how that works, isaiah 53:6 all we like sheep have gone, astray we have turned every one to his, own way and the Lord has laid on him the, iniquity of us all hope that you're able, to say that with me let's try it again, all we like sheep have gone astray we, have turned every one to his own way and, the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of, us all, isaiah 53:6 one more time isaiah 53:6, all we like sheep have gone astray we, have turned every one to his own way and, the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of, us all, okay let's try it with even more words, taken out can you do it let's find out, ooh this is going to be tough all we, like sheep, have gone astray we have turned every, one to his own way and the Lord has laid, on him the iniquity of us all, isaiah 53:6 all we like sheep have gone, astray we've turned everyone to his own, way and the Lord has laid on him the, iniquity of us all, I hope that you are
