hey everybody i'm cinnamon cooney your, art sherpa and today i'm going to show, you how you can paint this flower this, bird of paradise step by step in acrylic, on canvas at home i'm going to explain, every technique every color mix to help, me do that is my husband john hello he's, going to make sure that the camera is, pointing at what i'm talking about so if, i'm explaining a technique or, demonstrating a color mix you can really, see what's going on because what you can, see you can duplicate now to help you in, this journey i also have a mini book, which is written out instructions that, you can download in the form of a pdf, and go through step by step to match the, time chapter stamps that are on the, video all the stuff that we do we also, have a traceable you can watch this, video at any time now it is part, of a 30-day daily painting challenge, called acrylic april where every day we, paint together so we can work on our, skills and i give a new flower each day, this april because it's bloom you can, come and do just this one flower or you, can take part in all 30 paintings, however you decide to get through you're, certainly welcome to be here there's, nothing really to do but get your pink, get your brushes and come back and meet, me diesel right now you cannot believe, how fun and easy this is, so in today's wonderful rich painting we, have another eight by eight, we have the wish and intention for you, is that you find paradise in yourself, and in your life, so you know where the colors are in the, palette even though you saw the, materials at the beginning this is the, phthalo blue and this one is the, ultramarine blue, i have burnt sienna phthalo green cad, yellow medium cad red medium this is the, quinacridone magenta and that's the, titanium white we're going to begin, by just painting a background oh that's, actually well i mixed it with phthalo, blue but, just a green and a blue, which green which um i kind of used both, accidentally but what you should use is, ultramarine and uh, phthalo green, but if you messed up like i did it in no, way hurts you, because i did phthalo blue and then went, oops and then did ultramarine, so don't do as you do do as you say or, or if you did as i did don't worry about, it because it's not a big deal this is, just layer one we're just getting a, glazing layer almost of this, color so that when we come back, you know we have this kind of, background to begin with because uh, phthalo green and blue and ultramarine, they're all pretty transparent colors, just even on a good paint, you know if you're working with a lot of, transparent colors and you want a very, rich background you might have to do a, couple layers to create that depth, layers, layers, like a cake but you can see i'm not, being like super neat, or parfait, i might be needing a parfait i'm just, trying to make sure there's a nice, little coverage, yes there's brush strokes i'm not too, worried about that, i'm just making sure that the pain is, really worked into the canvas, you know what else has layers, ogres ogres have so many layers ogres, have layers and onions have layers, and ogres are like onions, all right we're like paintings or like, paintings i mean right, all right let's rinse that out and to, get the next part i'm going to really, want to dry this, thoroughly so that i can kind of do this, sort of abstracted dry brushing on the, next part, so i'll see you back here for the next, step, i'm going to start putting in some, planning i'm going to take a little of, my, phthalo green and my burnt sienna and, make this deep, deep brown, and let's make a line come this way, and then another line, come that way, right so that kind of lets us know where, some leaves are not necessarily the, layering of those leaves but just the, beginning of knowing where they are, and i know my leaf is going to, round here kind of comes to a point, this one is going to have a little divot, in it where the leaf is torn as tropical, leaves will sometimes do, so we're just making these nice, wide tropical leaves kind of abstractly, in the background is what we're doing, i'm just pulling that in, so i loosely sketch out that leaf, and pull that in, so, are you going to have another pop quiz, for me in this lesson yes, but i don't know what it is because i, didn't think of it until you mentioned, it to me right now and then i realized i, was going to do that to you, because you reminded me, see how good i am, so good, so the curve of my brush stroke here see, i'm curving it to the outside edge of, this leaf, like this kind of creates some of that, leaf shape it's just the beginning we're, just creating an impression the, implication of the leaf it's the, implication of this leaf right, just don't leaf, all right doing another little simple, kind of, shape right here, i know, i like that now around here, around here, and i get a little bit of my, green and yellow and we're going to, come around our leaves yellow green and, yellow what was it yeah i thought you, got brown, i might have had a little bit of brown, in there thank you good catch oh it's, like you said green and yellow it looks, like you got green and brown i was like, well i got green brown and yellow okay, and we're gonna just kind of paint, around our abstracted leaves here, i don't want a light color because you, know i've still got to leave room for my, bird of paradise to show and this is a, very, abstracted layer, some ready abstract layer one right, leaf layer let's come in with some other, dark green kind of, those are additional leaves you cannot, see well and you got to remember that, we've got a, bird of paradise coming here so our, background we don't want to put our, whole heart into we just need to have, implications of leaf a leaf and now, we've got to dry this it's sort of, jungle sea, uh background distant, there's some jungly leaves, tropical nature, you know david burroughs coming by in a, minute to talk about some awesome, dancing bird so let's give a place for, awesome dancing bird to be by drawing, this canvas, so i'm going to make some ribs and ribs, and then come back with a highlight i'm, going to use this a hog brush you could, just use your synthetic round if you, didn't have a hog this is a number six, art knee brush by raphael, i'm going to take interestingly enough, my brown my burnt sienna, and let's get our ultramarine blue, because they make a nice kind of gray, see that right there, it goes deep gray and that's going to be, kind of almost like our black in this, piece, and then when i come up, sort of either side of, my little center vein, it's pretty thick but i know i'm, painting back in with a light green so, having a bit of that line is not harming, me, this is additional leaf layers, yeah we're just kind of coming in and, i'm going to make these upward little, lines because remember these are just, loose leaf sketches, loosely fleas loose leaves sketches, loose leaf sketches say that like, never twister, never gonna be able to do it, loose leaf texture, loose leaf texture, loose leaf texture oh no i summoned, the leaf loose texture guy, he's a friend of beetlejuice now these, are in little increments about a finger, width up, come up another finger with another, finger with, just bringing those up similar thing, here, i'm going to come in with that light, there so, that's uh oh yeah i've got to remember, to curve it the same way and have a, little upward curve isn't it, if it were to match the other, if it were to match the other, it could be a different leaf, could be a different leaf, i'm a fern, please not a leaf, okay, that's pretty cool right so let's come, back and i'll show you you don't have to, dry because it's okay if some of this is, still wet because it'll blend wet into, it but let me show you what's next on, our forest background, i'm going to come in and make a slightly, brighter green not super bright but just, definitely brighter than the background, and i'm going to do that by taking burnt, sienna and phthalo green, and adding just a little yellow to it, and come up this leaf, with that, yellow green and kind of make a little, spine, or in sienna, and coming inside that little leaf so, we're creating, little background, elements, not bright enough to take over the whole, canvas just to give us a context of this, sort of tropical background we're very, in focus, leaf is going to be, and still, this number 16 artony round brush with, hog could you use a synthetic yes you, could you could use a totally different, brush you don't have to worry about this, being the same same brush, it's going around this outside edge just, trying to, loosely sketch in line, try brushing in, you can see i kind of scoop in, and we can still see the dark line but, it's blending down now, this is a little less in detail, and then come back and take the same, brush, and kind of work all around i'm just, getting more into my phthalo green, my little leaves here, all right just making them a little, i see them, blend it in so this is sort of like, painting in negative space, and also this rough brush again creates, this sort of, rough background, and come through with a little bit of a, lighter green, and also make little abstracting marks, right, i wonder if i'm going to like this i, think so i'm like like at this stage, sometimes i'll have an idea and i'll be, like, i'm going to like this i don't know, too soon to tell right, no i think i can tell now i like it, i'm coming up the center with a little, slightly lighter green, and up in the plant with a slightly, lighter green, just creating some, some little dimensionality but again, it's not bright because i've got to, leave room, for you know what i've got coming up, and kind of dry brush this into the, background see i'm doing that, yeah blending it back, we very rarely get to play with stuff in, this, kind of like oh let me push it back sort, of way, but i can sketch and then say let's push, this back, and when you've been painting for a, while, things that, you know maybe used to give you anxiety, just become tools in the art box so see, how by just dry brushing over this i, kind of push that leaf a little bit yeah, to the back, all right that's perfect that's just, enough background, for our wonderful very f, like focal bird of paradise flower but, to do the next part i definitely want to, try i definitely want to make sure i, have clean water so i'll see you back, and we'll go on what's next, so i'm going to want some very bright, yellows and oranges and pinks and reds, and greens and purples in this bird of, paradise which means i will actually, pre-paint it in white first i'm going to, use a number eight, simply simmons filbert brush i'm going, to get a little bit wet, i'm going to load up some white paint, and i'm going to be very brave i'm going, to sketch this out freehand in paint you, do this in chalk or use the traceable, now, i'm going to come up here from the side, and we're going to, bend over, and come this way so there's this lower, man i don't know all the parts of the, plants but this is very, definitely part of this plane is this, sort of lower, hot what is it leaf i don't know man, they're very strange you guys tell me, what all the different little parts are, who knows, and let's uh kind of arc this up a, little bit though it has to look like, all the petals kind of, fan out so that's sort of what happens, there's this little pod and then it, opens and then they all fan out, and you know as you're going you, you will see different things kind of, consistently, in them but they'll all be a little bit, unique if that makes sense, now i'm going to get a little more water, on my brush so the paint is flowing, nicely and everything is okay, and i'm going to talk a little bit about, maybe this first forward, yellow so i got to make sure that's got, a good shape, and then there's going to be a little, blue that's going to come this way and, they're sort of they're sort of a trip, so i'm going to let it go off a, bit has a bit of a spike in it, and then we're going to bring another, little blue spike up here which right, now is white, but we know what it is, and it also is going to have kind of a, little, weird shape, all right, and then i'm going to, say that there's a, yellow one right there, maybe kind of coming from behind, and then definitely guess what, guess what, what i'm going to say another spike oh, yeah because, is this a spike flower, it's a paradise flower it's a pear bird, of paradise where to paradise that says, i got spikes, because they do, very, they're super spiky, they probably don't want to look all, tasty and, easy to eat they look like something, that eats you should be real honest, that's probably their purpose they're, like, a little bit of a leaf maybe coming up, here, i mean there we go, so we're gonna want to dry that all the, way but that's going to give us give us, the like bright basis where we can come, back with bright colors, and be super playful and kind of create, some unexpected drama, so we come back i'll show you what's, next in a step make sure your white is, dry, so i'm going to take my number 4 simply, simmons round and i'm going to get it a, little bit wet we're going to start in, with our wonderful yellow orange, little topper blooms they're going to be, so much fun i'm going to come back here, kind of begin with a little bit of my, my yellow if i want the tip to kind of, point out i can even come out with a, little white into my yellow, and kind of blend that in, creating some shaping, i need some shaping, right there with yellow, and then i'm going to go into, a little yellow here and here, and then we'll work our orange in, and our orange is just going to be our, cad, yellow and our cad red and i'm actually, kind of blending this in a little bit, wet into wet are you guys seeing that, and because we kind of painted these, white first, you will see that we're not having any, trouble, covering with our orange this one will, put a little more red into the mix it's, a little oranger, a little more yellow and just, gonna create some interesting blends in, the flower, looks great we're gonna be doing uh this, kind, of painting i'm going to get a little, more white and yellow here so i can kind, of, white and yellow the stem, right, a little bit, a little red, it's just fun these are just fun to, paint so that's vibrant it glows against, the green yeah, let's do this through all of these, same thing through this this this, one's right here but not that because, that's blue, and the trick will be like moving along, quickly enough so if you're doing like a, white and yellow at a tip, and then blending into, orange you have enough time to blend if, you need a blending medium, that's, okay, if you paint, yeah if your painting is drying on you, too quickly and you're like man this is, just drying on me before i even have a, chance to like say orange, use a blending medium ready set orange, oh my gosh it's not orange anymore, [Music], it's glue, this is the challenge of this it's just, working quickly enough, to get these little ombres going right, and that's what they are they're little, ombres i can wipe off and then come back, with some yellow and, really exaggerate anything that i want, to exaggerate, now maybe through here i come in with, some white and yellow at the bottom of, this petal, right, and some yellow, blending it in, right into this orange, i think i want this one to be a little, more orange so i'm going to rinse off, take my round and it mix up a brighter, orange, get a little more into some yellow, look at, a little red there, what i know, or it's a paradise you're gonna be, painting them all the time now that you, know because they look amazing yeah but, they're really rather friendly to paint, and this is actually the first bird of, paradise i've done on my channel so i, don't know why it took me so long, we'll do some more, let's get some white on the brush make, sure this is sort of a little bit white, at the base, we'll be doing that interesting kind of, little trick later, as well and that will help tie the pod, in, to the flower yeah, some of our cat red into our cat yellow, love it love it love it love it if i, want to get a little more drama blenders, get into my yellow, see how that just brightens it all up, it does, little white, there we go, that's that whole step you just did it, you cannot believe how fast this goes, all right that was awesome come back, we're gonna do some blue spikes, so this is going to be real fun the, first thing i'm going to do is i'm going, to get a little white on my brush, i'm going to come from the bottom just, make sure that this is a little bit, primed white here, and then i'm gonna come to the top on, this one and kind of make sure that this, is super pointy and sharp, and then let's get a little bit of our, phthalo blue, pulling down our phthalo blue, i'm bringing that back see how i'm, bringing it, hombre i do, it's kind of like a little button and, i'll do a light halo blue here, pull some white into it, and then go right into our, ultramarine yep, and then this kind of curls off, it's got two little weird spiky points, i will definitely give that those little, spikes there see i just tip them, i like to come back with a little, phthalo blue and white, and along the back side, that's pretty good, that's pretty much what they are they're, kind of a weird little thing i might try, to, maybe exaggerate this tip even a little, more, just a little point here, i'll come back here to this back one, same thing again, kind of prepping that with some white, i'm gonna go into my phthalo blue, and the back side, and a little bit here, blending that in, right into that ultramarine blue, the ultramarine and that phthalo blue, contrast each other so well, because they have a different bias in, their hue, and that makes them very, dramatic next to each other yeah, get a little that drama going and then, you're there, add a little white, drama to the inside little tear of those, petals, and then we just have one more of these, to do we are whipping through this, flower, i know it's kind of crazy and, complicated but yet also simple yeah it, is, make sure this kind of goes a little, cleaner too it kind of looks like a bird, it does kind of look like a bird i, wonder if that has anything to do with, how they named it see at first i was, like i thought you were, a bird, in front of that, oh you thought it was a bird a paradise, like bird and i was like trying to, figure out like, what was going on, well you don't have the benefit of the, thumbnail or any idea of where i'm going, i'm grabbing my ultramarine blue for, that center again doesn't give me any, clue what she's painting beforehand, i really don't, all right, and we'll come in and just do a little, tip with the weight, and that's all it is that's a step guys, that's a step that's the step those are, those crazy petals who now thinks the, bird of paradise is like their favorite, flower to paint, this where is this the whole month huh i, think this is awesome they are pretty, awesome we used to have these in our, yard when i was growing up my mom was a, big fan of these and so they have these, big wide leaves and they grow kind of, like a, canna almost didn't i really loved them, all right let's dry this and we'll come, back and we'll do the next part, so this part of the plant is sort of, fascinating and how it's got many, different little transitional colors, it's very colorful i'm going to begin, with my magenta, maybe even a smidge of my yellow right a, magenta though pretty strong and some, white so a smidge of yellow magenta and, white and i'm going to come up, the inside of this, with that very kind of interesting color, i come down a little bit, there we go now i'm going to rinse out, transitional, i'm going to take some of my magenta and, a little of my ultramarine blue and i'm, going to make a lovely purple, i'm going to add a little white to it, it seems as much as you can you're, working wet into wet as much as i can i, am moving along so that the colors, are really blending into and i'm gonna, go a little blue as i come down, now if you weren't as, swift with a little, could you use gloss medium, okay that's right here, slow the drying time is an optional, thing it's a very optional thing and one, you should consider i'm going to get, into my orange my wonderful orange, and i'm going to come along the top, it's wild isn't it, it is, i love it very much and maybe a little, bit down the back, see this looks like a bird of paradise, you'd see at middle earth, no that's exactly how they look, that's what's that's what's important to, understand is this is how they look this, is how they are let's get a little green, we're just going to get a little bright, green with some phthalo green and some, cad yellow, and we're going to come right under here, with that pop of color, and we're also going to come right up, here, wow that's super colorful isn't it with, that bright bright green, yeah i'm gonna get into my all my um, phthalo green and believe it or not my, ultramarine blue, it's super light look at me, they are, all the insects can see all the colors, that i make and the birds can see me, from far far away, they really can, i get a little white and blue together, look at that, it's just, vibrant let's get a little white, blend that little tip in, a little white under here too, there we go just making sure that these, things each stand out from each other, and blending in that yellow so it's just, very, yeah right we want that to be whoa, all right we've got this one here when, we come back, you ready to do that one, so i'm going to come here and finish off, this back leaf and any contrast changes, that i want to make to help this pop, from the background though it's showing, fairly well oh it's popping yeah it's, pop and it's doing its pop pop pop, so we're gonna get into our, white our yellow green which is our, yellow and a little phthalo, then we'll blend into our deeper green, a little yellow white and just add some, white to it, then come in with a little deeper green, along this edge it's just a, just trying to keep that color flowing, right, now i want to finish this off because i, want this to stand out from the, background i'm going to go into my, yellow green again, with a smidge white, and come there see how that pulls that, out from the, from the background, yeah, i'm gonna add a little white into this, there we are getting there aren't we, and that is a bird of paradise, that's fantastic if you didn't know how, fun and easy those were to paint, just really just to get one in you can, spend more time on them you can get, involved you can put, several of them in one large composition, imagine, many of these in like a 48-60 then it's, much more time intensive but you might, be inclined to take that on now that you, know how doable it is i'm going to give, this a signature when we come back i'm, going to tell you what you're gonna do, next, were you surprised by how fast this went, yeah, yeah i felt like you know after the, horsey, and everybody might need a couple light, days, so every day wasn't the hardest day ever, and this really is such a fun flower all, right we'll come back and tell you, what's next i think the bird of paradise, teaches us we can't judge a flower by, its petal, sometimes things that look complex are, easy and sometimes things that look, easier complex, in paintings in flowers in life you just, sort of never know until you're in it i, hope though this gave you a bit of a, breath, in your journey and, maybe invited you into taking on things, that mentally you would think were too, much but actually, could be a lot of fun and easy that's, that's the hope here this is a super, good blending practice it's good, blending practice it it it's good brush, practice it's good just because it's, just so free like and your petals are as, good as anybody else's puddles right, especially in a bird of paradise um, i really hope that you're enjoying this, acrylic april maybe you came here just, to paint this flower because it's, meaning to you meaningful to you and i, really appreciate you being here be sure, and hit that subscribe button because i, do videos all the time, if you're here for acrylic april i know, we're in that week where everybody like, gets a little tired and starts to, question their judgment for doing, acrylic april so if you're needing that, encouragement please go to the acrylic, april group and like talk to everybody, about your feelings talk to everybody, about how you're doing because we have, fourth years who have done this and they, did it last year when all the paintings, were like two and a half hours long and, it was super hard to do and they'll be, able to help encourage you to get you, through, now i want you guys to be good to, yourselves and be good to each other and, i want to see you and an easel really, soon bye, you

Weird and specific question.. Does anyone know what episode of Bluey this bird is from? This is from a Bluey coloring book I got at Target. I want to color it the same colors it is in the show and I know I recognize the bird but I can't place it! If anyone can help me I would be forever grateful.
