hey y'all welcome back to brave kids art, club my name is brad and i am so excited, that you guys decided to draw with me, today, wait that's why you guys are here right, oh good because today we're going to be, drawing a really special animal that you, can find all over my favorite national, park yellowstone i love visiting and, supporting our national parks and that's, why i teamed up with the good people, over at 59 parks project and if you, don't already know who they are 59 parks, is all about celebrating national parks, and the art of printmaking they curate, and sell beautiful posters pendants, patches and more of all your favorite, national parks and the best part is five, percent of each sale is donated to the, national park service, so if you haven't already guessed it the, animal we're gonna be drawing today is a, bison and i've actually already had some, practice drawing one because i made this, yellowstone national park poster for the, 59 parks project a little while back all, right before we get started let's make, sure we have everything we need we need, a nice clean sheet of paper make sure, you have a sharpened pencil with an, eraser, and then you need to have some sort of, black marker or pen so we can do our, outlining and then at the very end we're, going to do some coloring, and you can use whatever you'd like i'm, going to use this big pile of markers, okay so grab your pencil and let's start, with our sketch we always start with a, sketch now we're going to just draw a, bison standing right here so we want to, see the profile which is the side of the, bison because it's very very interesting, they have a very unique shape, let's start off with maybe in the back, here we're going to kind of do, really lightly, do kind of a just a vertical line right, here, we can yeah that's a good spot, and then we're going to do a line that's, going to be kind of going upwards a, little bit, so we're going to do a slanted line, upwards, and we're going to draw lightly because, we're probably going to erase some of, these lines we just kind of need to set, our main shape and make sure it fits, within our page it's composed well on, our page okay so i'm going to take, another line let's say i take the bottom, of this line, and i'm going to kind of go at an angle, right here, that makes sense it's almost like if you, flipped it this way it's like a cone, and then what we're going to do is we're, going to just go ahead and do a really, light, line right here we're just trying to, decide what the main shapes of our, animal is so that we can kind of see, where it's going to be on the page first, then we can finesse it and make it look, like we want it to and then right here, we're just going to kind of do a loose, oval shape, now this might be too big and that's, okay maybe all this is a little off but, their heads are really really big they, actually have really big heads and this, big hump right here on the top so if you, looking up a picture of one of these, you'll see a big hump right here on, their back, so we'll just kind of draw that right, here next to the head, right behind this big head there there's, this big hump and that hump is made of, muscle and it's protecting their spine, and their neck and it makes it so that, when they plow through snow a lot of, times they live in areas where there's, lots and lots of snow like yellowstone, park for example and they will push, their heads and use it like a snow plow, if you've ever seen those come through, your street and push all the snow away, they can do that with their heads, because they have really strong necks, and they have this big hump right here, very strong animals all right now that, we have the humblest kind of distinguish, it from the rest of the body we're going, to do a backwards c right here, so that's there's a little area there, that not only was the hump is but then, it has like extra fur that's kind of, built up if you have your parents help, you look up a bison you'll see that fur, that's kind of built up right around the, hump, alright so from the head, we're gonna move down and do this little, c shape it's just a curve here actually, we're gonna go way back, we're gonna go way back here there we go, like this their head sticks out quite a, ways, we're gonna go way back there and we're, gonna be adding their front leg, okay, but let's do the back part of the leg, too really all you have to do from the, back leg, let's just make it kind of, kind of furry because they have really, furry legs right here that front leg, and then we'll just kind of do a little, line, and we'll make that there for their hoof, does that look good and we can probably, build out this out a little bit further, but we got a couple lines curved lines, curved line here a lot of curved lines, for these animals, okay i like that, and then we have the stomach kind of, going, up and then maybe we'll add right about, here, we'll add another another curve, backwards c and this is going to be for, their back leg now if it helps it always, like for me sometimes it helps that you, kind of draw a line here so we kind of, keep the legs on the same, plane or the same line, and then i'm going to kind of go back, here, and then i'm going to go forward with, the line, so a little backwards seam i'm going to, go forward, the legs are kind of hard to draw i find, a lot of four-legged creatures have i, have a hard time drawing their legs, horses are i feel like the hardest we'll, tackle those one day i promise, okay so now we'll draw that line, parallel to that one which is the same, distance apart and same angle here and, then i'm going to go back, and just do a little cut a little line, back, maybe even a little bit higher, and then from here, we want to connect this line to this, line so that top to this line, kind of well we'll get close, there we go the back of their their bum, here, is going to be kind of angled, less rounded more angled does that make, sense, so this if you want to now that we've, done that let's just erase, that little back part of the line we, don't need it anymore and if you really, want to you can erase this part, in here, kind of get that out of the way, okay, so now we got these it's funny it looks, like they're really the front of them, are so big and strong and it's got these, little legs, it's like when your parents skip leg day, or when i skip leg day okay so let's add, another back leg let's do it so you can, you can we can keep it like this you, don't have to see all their legs but, maybe we'll just put another leg back, here to kind of show just a little bit, more detail that would be kind of fun to, add in now you can stop right there and, you don't have to show it but i'm going, to do a little bit more just basically, draw the same thing at a slight angle so, i'll draw a line that goes down a little, bit it's going to go out, like that, and then it's going to come down right, back behind it, we'll draw a little line right here, and then we'll go straight back up, there you go so now you can kind of see, that it's legs there it's not completely, the same, but you just kind of copy the same, shapes that we've done before, now we got to kind of figure out how, this head looks this head's really, important so, an easy way to draw a bison's head, is by just kind of doing, a lot of they kind of have a little bit, of a, i don't know they kind of have a big, poof of hair on the top of their head, if you see some pictures of them so i'll, go kind of, make it kind of like a cloud, like that, and we can clean it up in a second but, right here i'm going to go from like, this top of this the front of this face, like you're going to draw a big strong, nose, we'll draw kind of an angle line right, there, right there, and then we'll come down at a little bit, of an angle again, and this is where their nose is going to, be so you kind of draw like a diamond, shape, right here, and you don't really see their mouths, it's kind of hard to see their mouths, and if they are they're kind of frowning, so, because that's kind of lame i don't want, to draw a frowny face on my animal, because i think all my animals are happy, i'll just skip that part and we'll just, uh he doesn't need a mouth we'll just, assume that he's smiling, and then we'll go down here, and let's just you don't have to match, with this line you can kind of move it, in a little bit, and i'm just going to kind of go like, like this, add a little bit a little furriness, almost like he has a like a goatee like, a beard like me if i push this out a, little bit if it got a little bit longer, that's what it would look like, so he's got kind of a beard going on, and then uh on the back, of his head, we'll kind of just go like this, there you go we'll kind of just do a c, shape a big stretched out c, they also have little horns, so we'll draw those on there too after, we draw the eye let's draw the eye first, so we know where that horn will go the, eyes kind of up in the up higher up on, the head, so we're going to draw that right here, that circle's hard to draw, i'm looking back at us the big pupil in, the middle, oh maybe the little nostril too, that'd be pretty easy just draw a little, line there, and then we'll draw, just a little horn now it doesn't matter, what shape your horn is you can, you can do that yourself, make it you can make it pointy you can, make it rounded they don't have really, big horns so just make a little horn, right there, and i kind of want him to have a little, bit more hair, on top of his head i think that'd be, kind of cool so we'll make that kind of, poofy and then i think i want to make, this back a little bit bigger, that hump i want to really, exaggerate that hump exaggerate mains, make it look bigger than it really is, just because it'll help people recognize, this as a bison, not a buffalo a lot of us call it, buffalo i've called it buffalo before, but bison are different than buffalo, we call them buffalo because when, europeans came here to settle they, hadn't never seen bison before but, they've seen buffalo and so they called, them buffalo and that's how we still, call them, there's actually a football team in the, nfl called the buffalo bills, and they'll see on their helmet they, have the same horn on there, and uh yeah they're actually bison, they're not buffalos all right so our, sketch is looking good i just think we, need to add a tail, they definitely have tails, we'll add just a little little tail on, the back there all right so my bison's, looking good and i am ready to, make the outline all right so i'm gonna, start with the big shapes first, here on the back, i don't know why, every time i start laying down my, permanent marker it makes me a little, nervous, it shouldn't okay before i go back here, i kind of want to keep it the same as, this i want to make it look really furry, so i'm going to kind of go down and do, like a little wave shape, the whole way i'm going to follow that, line already made that's the cool part, about doing your sketching, is that you already have the main shape, underneath and then you can style it, however you want so i like it like that, i'm going to go straight down, and then i'm going to go, back for the, underneath his neck, and i'll draw that line at the bottom, this is the hoof and i'm trying to draw, a little line there so you can tell that, it's different than the rest of the leg, but most of it's covered with hair right, there, and then on the back, you know i might just do a little furry, on the back too for this big hump, okay now let's do that hair, this hair is really important, there we go, big, hair, there you go i gotta stop because i need, to go ahead and do the horn, don't want to draw over the horn, there we go, and then we'll keep drawing the hair, awesome i'm liking that hairdo, okay then we'll draw that c shape, for the back, of the head, okay let's draw their beard, man i'm kind of jealous of his beard and, then we'll draw that line there for the, nose a big strong nose, and a line down to connect it, now these animals, are really big and you might think that, they're kind of slow, they're not slow they can run up to like, 35 miles per hour which is really really, fast and not only are they fast but, they're agile that means they can switch, directions while they're running really, really quickly which i'm getting to a, point where i can't even do that so it's, really impressive that they're that big, and can do it okay so we do the little, line for the nose maybe we want to make, it a little bit bigger, there you go i kind of like that better, and then for the scary part we got to, draw the circle for the eye okay i'll be, very careful here, because i'm going to be drawing in a, darker color probably for around the eye, i want to make sure that i draw the eye, maybe even slightly bigger than i, normally do it, so there's more white in the middle of, the eye, all right so i'm going to draw this, pupil really nice and big to make him, look friendly, there we go, he might look a little scared, if you go to yellowstone national park, you drive through and you might get, caught in a big herd of bison, it's happened to me before there's, hundreds of them, most of the bison in the u.s, are in yellowstone national park, for a long time bison were almost only a, few of them there wasn't very many left, because when people came here they, hunted them, and they hunted them a lot, and there was barely any left they, almost went extinct but they're back and, the ones in yellowstone are very, protected, and you can go and see them, see their whole herds and it's really, really neat, they'll come right up to the side of, your car but you have to be careful you, need to stay in the car, there we go now we'll draw the back, hoof so we'll just draw little lines, right there, there we go let's draw that back tail, and talking about the tail we put his, tail down that means he's pretty relaxed, and he's calm but if his tail is, sticking straight up that means he's, angry and you better get back in your, car, okay i think we got the outlining done, so i'm going to do a little bit of, erasing and then right afterwards i'm, going to jump right into color so feel, free to color yours in however you want, i'm going to do kind of close to the, actual colors but i want to see some, really unique colors i think that would, be cool okay i'm gonna do that we'll, meet up right after, [Music], and, my bisons all colored in, i figured out a name i'm gonna name him, brian after a good friend of mine brian, the bison, and i'm really proud of how he turned, out so because i'm proud of how he, turned out what do i need to do, that's right i need to get my sharpie, out and mark my name at the bottom so, everybody knows, that this is my drawing i'm proud of, what i made, are you proud of what you made today, good well i'd love to see what you made, so make sure your parents go to, instagram and share your photo of your, bison at brave kids art club that way i, get a chance to see it so does a lot of, other people well thank you guys so much, for drawing with me this has been an, absolute blast remember we do this, monday
