[Music], [Applause], [Music], hi everybody and welcome back to, another episode of hector at home the, kids edition, so for today we are going to be looking, taking a look at the museum's permanent, collection, getting some inspiration from some of, those works of art and we're gonna, get creative and create artwork of our, very, own so stay tuned spring, is the season where everything blooms, anew have you ever noticed that we get a, lot of rain in april, we'll be taking a look at frederick h, buckholtz, and gertrude fisk's paintings these, artists, like to take a look carefully at the, world around them, and create around what they see let's, begin with frederick's painting, have you ever noticed how a plant begins, to grow what kind of shape do you notice, the artist is showing us how the plant, looks when it's just a seed, and then begins to grow into a sprout, imagine yourself in this painting, what do you think that you would see, hear, feel or smell so now let's compare this, painting to, gertrude can you name some of the, details in this painting, this older gentleman is getting ready, for spring, how can we tell we can notice that he's, holding a book about planting, there are gardening tools in the, background and we can see a little, sprout, starting to grow in a pot just like we, saw in frederick's painting outside, compare the little sprouts in the pot to, the one in the first painting, what is the difference about them the, one outside is growing naturally, while others can be planted inside and, cared for, how do you think the man is feeling in, this painting, is he excited for spring or is he, concentrated on, learning maybe today for our project, we are going to be thinking about all, the fun we can have, watching april showers turn to may, flowers, so let's go over the materials that, we're going to be needing for today's, project, first you'll need a white sheet of paper, a pencil an eraser and the coloring, material of your choice, today i'm going to be using markers, and colored pencils but you're just, going to be using whatever coloring, materials you have available to you, so with that being said let's get, started so for my project for today, i am going to be drawing a rainy april, day, the first thing that i want to do is, create, my horizon line so the horizon line is, going to help show us, where the rain is going to be in the sky, where the person is going to be standing, on the ground, and also where the rain puddles are, going to start forming, so how i want to start off with my, umbrella is by drawing kind of like an, oval shape at first across my page, and i'm going to create a dot that's not, in the center somewhere let me pick over, here, and from there i want to start creating, triangles so coming from the point here, all the way to the end and i'm going to, keep doing that, all the way around my umbrella, any lines at the end that still look, rounded, i'm going to want to give them a sharper, edge, so i'm going to just connect them all, and i'm making triangles, as i go across, and then i still have all of those, rounded shapes from the oval, so i'm going to take my eraser, and just okay, so now that i have all of my pieces kind, of squared off they all look like, triangles now at this point so now i'm, gonna, work on drawing who's holding the, umbrella, okay so i want to think about position, so i since i'm seeing the back of the, umbrella, i'm going to draw my figure from, behind so i'm going to start out with, drawing a rectangle maybe a little, rounded, to show their raincoat, and i'm gonna draw some some little, little shorts for them i think the, weather's a little warmer, today and then let's give them, legs as well and since it's raining of, course they need to be wearing, rain boots, so i'm going to want to erase my horizon, line, that is going through my figure, and since it's a rainy day i need to add, in some puddles, so my friend over here is deciding to, jump in a very large puddle over here, and i'm gonna have a lot of fun creating, splats of color with my puddles as, i as i fill them in, later on our next step of course, is going to be creating our rainy sky, so that means i'm going to be, drawing in some clouds, and i don't actually want to draw in my, raindrops yet, because i only want to do that with my, marker, later on so i'm going to leave that for, now it's also very important to remember, that when you're using your pencil you, don't want to be pressing down too hard, because there are some parts that you're, going to have to erase and when you go, to color, over them later you don't want any, unwanted pencil marks showing up in your, finished product, okay so now getting to the best part of, course, was adding in all of the color so as you, can see, i ended up using colored pencil for the, sky, because i wanted it to be a little less, vibrant than the, uh splashes of water that are in there, so i made sure, to be really bright and vivid with, my puddles that i have over here the, raindrops that i drew in, and of course we needed to make our, umbrella, bright and colorful so inside of, each triangle i made sure to draw a, different type of, pattern within them with my markers, and finishing it off i made sure to, color in my friend's raincoat, and the rest of their outfits they're, deciding on hot pink
