[Music], hello everybody and welcome to hey kids, let's draw thanks for joining us we're, excited to try something new today we, are going to draw george herman ruth, better known as babe ruth, one of the best, baseball players of all time and frankly, one of the best sports figures of all, time, babe ruth was born in 1895 nicknamed the, bambino, or the sultan of swat began his career, as a pitcher for the boston red sox but, was most famous for his slugging home, runs, as a new york yankee outfielder, one of the greatest sports figures of, all time he played baseball from 1914 to, 1935, and it's definitely a hall of famer so, we're going to try something new we're, only going to use, gray, markers do you see that, black white gray, markers and why are we doing that this, is going to be a new challenge so might, be, a drawing for a more intermediate, artist so i'll put the gray, right here we're going to start with a, darker gray okay, almost a black, and the reason why we're trying this is, we want to make a black and white, colored, drawing similar to the black and white, photos you see of babe ruth, just to try it make it look old make it, look cool make it look authentic so get, your thin point marker, on a dark, gray or black marker let's try this, and find the center of your page, let's find the center of your page here, we're going to draw, the head, right up here at the top i'm going to, zoom out just a little bit so you can, see, a little bit better there we go, okay, here we go so the hat, the old hat styles that they wore back, in the 1920s, uh 1930s was a little flimsier so, usually we draw a big square hat for, modern day baseball players this time, we're going to draw kind of a, rounded hat so here we go, do an arch, a small arch, for the brim of the hat, and then we're gonna do, just you can even make it wiggly, the reason why we can make it wiggly is, because it's flimsy it does it's not, perfectly straight, and then we'll do a, little ball on top there, now that's the brim of the hat, the top of the head, and, we're going to come down here and do it, kind of an arch shape, an arch shape and we're going to do a, kind of a rounded face here so, down round to the chin, up round and connect, all right not perfect but okay, do a couple of ears, ears, and we're going to do some smaller eyes, for babe ruth, one, these are like ovals almost like eggs, turned on their side, i'll do a circle on the inside circle on, the inside, circle, circle, cool, now let's do the eyebrows here eyebrows, are going to be kind of tilted, one, two see how they kind of tilt down, toward the ear they're not perfectly, straight, up and down, up and down to a point, alrighty, now the famous babe ruth knows he's got, this, kind of big wide nose, let's see if we can do it justice we'll, do, the same kind of the same width, from this eye we're going to do a, nostril, bring that width of the eye down we'll, do a nostril, okay, and now we're going to do the mouth, it's going to go, up, down, like that, so went up to a point, and kind of longer on that side, we'll do a big, arched connecting there, and here's the bottom lip, there we go, he's got some teeth, and there let's draw some hair he's got, some dark black hair, bring a swoop of hair over here and, color that in, color some hair over here, to the hat, color in the eyebrows, all right we'll color in these eyes in a, minute, now let's do let's kind of, figure out the rest of the nose here, we'll do, an arch around, both nostrils, and a nose that goes down, like that, a line coming from the nostril down, toward this the mouth, there we go, and over here we're going to do a couple, lines one two three he's always got, these smile, lines one two three, and that'll be the eyes for now so i'm, gonna get i'm gonna put this darker one, away i'm gonna get maybe a little bit, of a lighter, but still dark, okay, actually you can't even tell that's okay, we'll color these eyes and leave those, circles white, i'm going to leave an area white down, there too so color around those circles, this is kind of a fun one it's it's, different than using colors we're just, learning how to use our grays and blacks, and whites, to do a black and white, 1920s baseball player it's kind of fun, all right, so let's continue with our darker marker, that same one we were using earlier, and, we're gonna draw a neck, coming down, one, two to a point, shoulders, boom, boom, sleeves, sleeves, okay now the waist is going to be a, little rounder babe ruth was kind had, baggier clothes and maybe a little more, heavy set so we do around to the waist, around to the waist, kind of arch, do a rectangle there for a belt buckle, belt, belt, do a big baseball right here big circle, it doesn't have to be perfect, never is it's okay and then a couple of, circles right here for fingers holding, onto that baseball, and then his arm coming down, his arm coming down into that baseball, we're gonna have a hand right here, believe it or not that's a hand, and round, so he comes down round into the hand, down into the hand, and he's holding on to this baseball bat, okay, down, round at the bottom big and then come up, kind of skinnier at the top, looking good, let's do the pants now, some big wide baggy pants up, and up okay, kind of skinnier legs, what i liked about the old school, uh baseball players is they have these, big baggy clothes and then these tight, long socks, so arch arch will do a, shoe the cleats were different too they, were these leather cleats, they're kind of long and skinny so they, i won't do a big huge, clown shoe cleat we'll do them, along behind the bat, kind of skinnier, all right, there's our outline for the bambino um, let's get some, let's do the new york yankees logo real, quick we'll get that blocked in so we'll, do a curve out, down, out, for the n, okay, and then up here we'll go down, out, straight down is for the y all right, now we'll color that in, square that off a little bit, there we go there's a good n now these y, the y up here, has a big wide top and then skinny's in, big wide top then goes skinny, down to a wide base, okay now we're going to do the same, thing up here it's going to be white, [Music], if you're a youngster drawing and you, don't know who babe ruth is, do a google search ask your parents if, you can do a google search, and definitely learn about one of the, greatest baseball players of all time so, we're gonna do the stripes we're gonna, stick with this dark color we're gonna, bring this down, boom bring the sleeve up, bring this sleeve up, do some stripes for the sleeves, i'm curving these out if you can tell, trying to follow the contour of maybe, babe ruth's body, bigger and rounder, okay, same with the pants, all right, got his yankees uniform on, let's get some lighter, grays, and the light, let's see what color this is, you have to kind of play around, test the different grays out and see, which one you like let's see what this, does, yeah we'll do an outline on his face, make a shadow down there see that, on the neck, maybe make a shadow under his eye, his nose, shadow under his lip, top lip gets a shadow a little darker, and under the nose gets a little bit, there, fill in those eyebrows, feeling some of that hair, bring it over because the hat is going, to cause a little bit of a shadow on the, head right, there we go, and outline, his sleeves he wears he used to it, looked like he wore a white, long sleeve undershirt under his uniform, a lot so we're going to keep that white, but maybe, color that in make a shadow, color this in area area and make a, shadow, we'll make his shoes a little bit darker, get a darker gray, because they were they like to wear the, darker leather, cleats, color these in, if you're wondering what type of markers, these are we use a, bianyo, brand, alcohol based marker, there's lots of other great brands as, well but that's the one we use right now, you can find a link in our, in this video, to purchase those markers on amazon, but really find a nice alcohol-based, marker, don't be afraid to spend a little bit of, money or ask for ask your parents, to get some nice ones they really help, out they blend together well, there we go, got those old school, i'm actually, outline this, bat a little bit thicker, this darker, and i'm going to make a couple of, let's do an oval color that in, this is the wood grain of the bat, there we go, i'm gonna outline his ear, his face with this dark marker i like to, outline my characters in black or a dark, thick line, just helps it pop, off the page, you might find this drawing a little bit, i don't know maybe it's boring to you i, i find it really fun actually, if it's boring feel free to use color, you know do the yankee, uniform the navy blue, the white, um we wanted to try it in black and, white here, see how it turned out i think it's kind, of different and fun, so we're going along the body, outlining in this thick dark, marker helping it pop off the page a, little bit, following the, lines, there we go, see how that line that thick outline, helps it pop, let's do some uh, let's do some more coloring let's i'm, gonna get a really light, gray kind of a warm gray, and maybe color in, this warmer gray adds a little bit of, warm tones kind of a, yellow feel, over his hand we'll do his hand, [Music], maybe the baseball bat, so i'm just coloring around the lines, making it look like wood it doesn't have, to be perfect, um the ball maybe has a little bit of, this warm, for a shadow, see that, under here under his neck we'll fill, that in, fill in the legs, create a little shadow under the legs, under the belt, using this light it's almost a yellow, ish gray it's just a warm, great it's really cool to make it look, old and black and white just like, the photos of babe ruth that we like to, see, it's kind of cool i like that, add a little bit to his face here, under the eye, and his lip, i colored that bottom lip in, maybe go up there with the nose a little, bit, i really like how this is turning how, it's cool um, i got another really light, gray let's see what this does, actually maybe it's a little darker, go along the stripes why not, i'll get with this light gray it's, another warm gray, you can follow the stripes and make, those pop a little bit, what i'm going to do, i'm going to, get another gray, i'm going to outline, to finish this off, add a little outline to the left side, of our bay roof, to make it almost look like it's a, shadow popping off this page, just add a little 3d dimension, you know let me know in the, comments did you like doing an old, classic, sports player like babe ruth, do some squigglies here, for the cleats,
